Model Lessons and Lesson Observations
As bar modelling is still in the early stages of development in the UK, we have had requests from schools to deliver model lessons. Above is a lesson with a small group of Year 6 pupils from Elmhurst Primary School in the London borough of Newham. Elmhurst is an ‘Outstanding’ school and the lead the NCETM’s North and East London Maths Hub.
One of the key areas we focus on is questioning in bar model lessons. The questioning in the early stages supports pupils understanding and initial exploration. This, in turn, allows the teacher to “let go” and the pupils to work independently. We’ve been delivering bar model sessions in a variety of schools in London and surrounding areas over the last three years and welcome school enquiries on this matter.
A few schools have also enquired about the possibility of our trainers observing lessons and further supporting the teaching of bar models. For more information on model lessons or lesson observations please complete our contact form.
